Training Instructions for Reino
Start with no tool installed Get the demonstration block
Endgoal
- Remove tool, install tool, move to place and drill a hole
- End goal should be a hole pattern with some spacing (e.g. square 4-hole pattern with 15mm between centers)
Describe what the machine is
- Bridgeport knee-stype
- X Y Z axis
- Spindle
- Quill/drilling
- Best for drilling holes, then milling
- If just planning to drill, skip the milling part
- Check that it's in correct configuration, what needs to be locked, what needs to be unlocked.
- PPE: Eyepro always, hearpro sometimes, music never
- Never touch quill when the mill is running
- Be aware of chips
- Plastic chip protector
How to turn the mill on
- Switch power
- Check the E-stop
- E-stop is for emergencies, not for stopping
- Turn the spindle on
- Check the spindle direction
- Switch for the power feed power
- Each power feed has a led to show it's on
- Quill locked for milling, unlocked for drilling
- (Touch off for rough leveling, not recommended: inaccurate and rough)
- Feed worm for auto-feed quill (advanced feature, later lesson)
- Make sure that quill autofeed does not turn (the thing on the left side must not be spinning)
- Low gear vs high gear setting
- Keep the high gear unless you know what you are doing
- Press and turn, rotate the spindle, make sure it locks
- Spindle direction
- Low gear changes the spindle direction
- piece of tape hanging off
- change the speeds with wheel
- Mention the DRO, explain later when the tool is on
Practical part
- Start with installing the tool
- Mention that the taper centers the tool and has to be clean
- Drill chuck
- !Only for drills, never for mills
- Install the drill bit
- Less accurate than collet
- Use the tool (pin spanner) to tighten
- ? Mention ISO tapers and how to take the spacer out (will be semi-obsolete in the near future)
- Hold the tool and screw the drawbar
- Stepladder
- Brake the spindle and two-finger tighten
- Remove the tool
- ? Demonstrate with M12 thread
- Hold the brake
- Unlock the drawbar, handtighten back and unscrew half a turn
- Hold the tool and gentle tap on the bar
- Firm grip on the tool when unscrewing the draw bar.
- ! Make everyone install move the table and remove the tool.
- Controls
- Backlash
- ? What is Z axis backlash direction
- Clean the table, vice and parallels
- How the vice works
- Removing the pins for more area and cleaning
- Install the demonstation block
- Put in the parallels
- Put the block on the parallels
- initial tightening of the vice
- Show how the tapping work with deadblow hammer
- For steel use brass hammer
- Parallels snug
- Tighten
- Hydraulic vise always has jaw lift
- ? Let the trainees install the part?
- DRO
- ! DO NO BREAK THE GLASS SCALES
- Everything has flex, measure the part
- Zero it out
- How to read it
- half digit accuracy
- can't get back to 0.0 due to structural reason
- X Y Z locks
- ! Do not drill into the table
- Drill some kind of pattern
- Use the guidelines on the wall
- Carbide goes fast
- Quill end stop
- Lubricant
- ! Alcohol strips lubrication and has water, do not use with Reino
- Chip breaking
- Brushing/cleaning/vaccuuming during operations
- Avoid pressurized air
- Use the guidelines on the wall
- ! Make trainees repeat the drilling
Cleaning up and powering the machine off
- Vacuuming
- Remove long chips by hand, pliers or chip hook
- If low suction check the hose for blockage
- Wipe the floor with a lasta, there will always be chips on the floor
- Power off the mill from the on/off switch on the front panel
Reino maintenance
- Where to oil
- Once the day pull the lever to oil the ways
- If the head makes a squaking noise lube the belts
- ? Oiling the spigot?
Open Questions
- Should there be bough material, for eg making a dice? - How much time for general safety Second course for milling? - Squaring stock - Dial and test indicators - What to do
- Edge finder - Installing collet - No climb mill unless you know what to do - Face mill - Slot milliing
Collet or drill chuck for teaching?
- Start with drill chuck, mention that collet needs
