Introduction to HackNAS
This page intoduce you to usage of NAS (Network Attached Storage) that we have in Lab now.
One can think of our NAS as an internal Lab cloud. An open one that doesn't provide much of security.
Main motivation to create this little cloud was to provide easy and robust way to access your projects from stations like Laser Cutter, 3D Priter, and any other computerized equipment where is a need for project files.
Most common use case, perhaps, one can come with own computer with pre-made projects on it. Copy project files to 'cloud', access it from needed station without need to do anything with USB stick.
HackNAS Resources
There are three different storage spaces:
- public
- unpublic
- pinned
public
Anyone who has access to Hacklab WiFi can read/write in there.
This share is configured and can be already used.
To access it use
\\hacknas.local\public
On laser cutter and 3D printer there are already mapped S: drives to access it.
NOTE: ANY files older than 60 days are automatically deleted in this space.
unpublic
Anyone who has access to Hacklab WiFi and has a NAS account cat read/write in there.
This share isn't yet functioning as intended - more configuration will be needed.
Once space will be configured there also be configured auto deletion of old files.
pinned
Readonly space on which some labs designs can be stored and shared.
Just for random example, let's say ready made sketch for popular arduino case can be shared that way.
This share isn't yet functioning as intended - more configuration will be needed.
General limitations and restrictions
Please remember data isn't secure in this 'cloud'. Do not count on any security, even though we try to make some.
Space is very limited! And so use it only for those computerized stations as files for them are always small.
Do not consider this as private storage in any way! Not only that many can access it but due to very limited space files in spaces are subject of deletion as they age. See each share for autodeletion details.
Getting own account
As mentioned to be able to use 'unpublic' (AKA little more secured space) one need and account.
Once this space will be configured I'll notify about it. Then some regular lab folks will be able to create an account for you as they will have an admin rights for that.
You in the other hand will be asked to login and change your password in the system.
