Makro-ongelma alkuvuodesta 2019

Karaongelma talvella 2017–2018
2018 keväällä saatiin korjattua lähipajan avustuksella.

Alla oleva tieto on WANHAA.

Keskiviikkona 1.11.2017 CNC-kurssin lopputyötä ajaessa karalle tapahtunut Jotain.

* Kone on käyttökelvoton karan osalta
* Karan laakerit täytyy vaihtaa
* Karan paineilmasylinteri on irroitettu
* Karan vetomoottorin pultit ovat löysällä
* Karapaketin kiinnitysruuvit on löysätty
* Karan hihnapyörän kiristyspultit on irroitettu
** Pitäisi keksiä keino millä hihnapyörä saadaan irti
* Lotan työkalupitimet on rasvattu ja pakattu laatikoihin
* Karan ja karamoottorin hihnapyörään ja itse hihnaan on merkitty kohdat, jotta moottori on mahdollista saada takaisin oikeaan orientaatioon

Tehtävää
* Muistin varmistuspattereiden vaihto (ÄLÄ TEE ELLET TIEDÄ MITEN SE KUULUU TEHDÄ)
* Lastujen siivous
* Leikkuunesteen poisto
* Karapaketin irroitus
** Mutteri: https://cdz-gmbh.de/C-Serie-Praezisions-Wellenmutter
** Täytyy tehdä sopiva työkalu, sopiva kiila pitämään kara paikallaan
** Irroitusöljyä ja lämpöä, kuulemma saattaa olla perkeleen tiukassa
* Tarvittavan korjauksen vaihtoehtojen ja kustannuksien selvittäminen
** Yksi mahdollisuus on Pitäjänmäessä (Takkakuja 1 (aka Takkatie 7)) toimiva karoja korjaava liike: http://www.noritek.fi/konepajapalvelut/
** Noritekkiin otettu kontakti, näyttää erittäin positiiviselta, karan laakerit kuulemma maksavat noin 300-500e/kpl

The Machine

First rules
* Only operated by qualified operators, trainings will be organized with some regularity
** Operators must properly fill the logbook
* Lifting the honeycomb must not be done alone (it's easy to break and costs 1800EUR to replace)
** You probably don't need it anyway unless you're doing tiny things or fabrics.
* Never leave machine unattended even for a moment when it is cutting (significant risk of fire)
* Never touch the laser lens/nozzle combo.
* Use only pure distilled water (akkuvesi) as cooling water, do not add anything else to the cooling water.
* Since the Laser-SW requires admin rights we must allow admin logins (bad but unavoidable), this means this machine will not be used for general purpose anything and only the superusers are allowed to install anything (sw, browser extensions, anything) on it or adjust adblocker/noscript settings.
** We also highly recommend using some other machine for looking cool designs etc from the internet and then moving the files with an USB memory stick instead, just to reduce risk of malware infections due to unscrupulous advertisers etc.

In case of fire
* Small fire: open lid, try to blow it out.
* If does not go out with blowing, use the fire-blanket.
* If blanket does not solve the issue use CO2 extinguisher, leave the room, close the door and inform everyone at the lab. Email the board.
* If the CO2 extinguisher did not solve the issue: evacuate lab, call fire brigade, inform the board.

Q & A
* Materials?
** See http://atxhackerspace.org/wiki/Laser_Cutter_Materials
** https://tampere.hacklab.fi/viswiki/Laserleikkuri
** Basically everything but metals and stuff that produces poisonous/corrosive gas.
** Why not metal? Short answer: Metal reflects IR too well to be cut with IR laser. Marking metals is possible, though.
* Cutting area: 1600 × 900 mm with through feed.
* File formats
** Adobe Illustrator
** DXF
** BMP/JPG
** "ISO" Gerber
** SVG is NOT SUPPORTED.

Operating instructions
Start of operation checklist
* Open the log form, fill in your name and the current time.
** There is also link on the desktop of the computer.
* Get keys from their defined storage location.
* Check log entries for when the water was last replaced, if it was over 4 weeks ago, replace water (again: only distilled water with no additives). Email the board to let them know that more water is needed.
* If you did not replace water: Check log entries for when the water level was last checked, if it was not already done today, check level and add water if needed. Take care not to let any contaminants in when checking or adding. Mark in log accordingly.
* Make sure the honeycomb is not installed (when the machine resets it will raise the bed, if the honeycomb is on this will lead it it crash into the cutting-head)
* Use keys to turn on power
* Turn on blower (switch)
* Adjust bed for correct focus distance for your material

Cutting checklist
* Did you change material ? If yes, re-check focus distance
* Adjust head position, set origin (NOTE: the red helper dot might not be pointing exactly to the cutting point, use "pulse" to verify)
** Make sure you know which point of your cutting job you should set as origin in the machine.
* Use "border view" (sw) or "range" (panel) to verify bounding-box of cut.
* Make sure blower is on (switch)
* Make sure lid is closed
* Start cutting, keep close watch on what is happening.
** Risk of fire
** Settings may need tuning
* When done cutting wait 30-60 seconds for fume extraction before opening lid.

End of operation checklist
* Remove honeycomb if installed
* Raise bed to top
* Turn off blower (switch)
* Fill uptime, laser on time & work time to log
* Turn off machine (keys)
* Clean up the bottom "drop area" in case you dropped something.
* Finish filling up the log form (notes, end time) and submit.
** Failure to submit logbook will result in suspension of "qualified operator" -status.
* Put the computer to sleep or just leave it to go to sleep by itself, do not shutdown it completely.
* Return keys to their defined storage location.

The Machine

NOTE: Not yet in general use, content of operator training and best-practises are still being formulated.

Q & A
* Materials?
** See http://atxhackerspace.org/wiki/Laser_Cutter_Materials
** https://tampere.hacklab.fi/viswiki/Laserleikkuri
** Basically everything but metals and stuff that produces poisonous/corrosive gas.
** Why not metal? Short answer: Metal reflects IR too well to be cut with IR laser. Marking metals is possible, though.
* Cutting area: 1600 × 900 mm with through feed.
* File formats

* Use keys to turn on power
* Turn on blower (switch)
* If previous operator did not raise the bed to top ask for help from a superuser

* Remove honeycomb if installed
* Raise bed to top
* Turn off blower (switch)
* Fill uptime, laser on time & work time to log
NOTE: Not yet in general use, content of operator training and best-practises are still being formulated.

First rules
* Only operated by qualified operators, trainings will be organized with some regularity

In case of fire
* Small fire: open lid, try to blow it out.
* If does not go out with blowing, use the fire-blanket.
* If blanket does not solve the issue use CO2 extinguisher, leave the room, close the door and inform everyone at the lab.
* If the CO2 extinguisher did not solve the issue: call fire brigade, inform the board.

* Use keys to turn on power
* Turn on blower (switch)
* If previous operator did not raise the bed to top ask for help from a superuser

* Remove honeycomb if installed
* Raise bed to top
* Turn off blower (switch)
* Fill operation log (laser on time, work time)
* Turn off machine (keys)
* Clean up the bottom "drop area" in case you dropped something.
NOTE: Not yet in general use, content of operator training and best-practises are still being formulated.

First rules
* Only operated by qualified operators, trainings will be organized with some regularity

Questions related to the machine we hopefully can afford to buy soon.

Funding
Situation 2018-10-06 14:10

3 315 € of our goal (3 500 €) is funded

(note: amount updated manually daily or so)

* News: We received 500 euros from Rotary club, so the goal is now reduced to 3 500 euros - We are getting close!

Q & A
* Funding deadline? 12th October 2018.
** The link to payment info is not here because this page is not limited to members only and asking "the public" for money requires a special permit.
*** Check your email or "pinned items" on #yleinen at Slack.
** However: If you know a business that could support us, go ahead and try to get them to buy some of those support items.
** Our organisation's own budget is reserved for rent payments and other important operating costs, so we need this special member funding to get this done. The machine is specially reserved for us and is available only for this time for this price and with these specs.
* Materials?
** See http://atxhackerspace.org/wiki/Laser_Cutter_Materials
** https://tampere.hacklab.fi/viswiki/Laserleikkuri
** Basically everything but metals and stuff that produces poisonous/corrosive gas.
** Why not metal? Short answer: Metal reflects IR too well to be cut with IR laser. Marking metals is possible, though.
* Cutting area 1600 × 900 mm with through feed so full-size stock can be used.
* Total price? About 16k€.
** We might also want to order a batch of laser cuttable plywood and other sheet material soon-ish after the delivery + the installation might require some extra work and purchases. Right now we just have some random acrylic mostly in white and orange.
* How come delivery is already being prepared when we don't have all the money yet?
** 1. Optimism
** 2. The seller is willing to take a risk with it; if we ultimately can't pay they will simply take the machine away again. Oct 12th is not the absolute final deadline but we'd like to be ready early.
** 3. We have so far secured a fair amount of the total price as external funding in this machine, and this money cannot be used for anything else if we don't make it. The price we have to pay ourselves is just one quarter of the total, and we don't want to miss this deal!
** 4. It is very unlikely there would be another possibility to get similarly large and powerful machine in this price range with 3/4 of funding already secured. We need to act now and adjust to the seller's wishes to have it delivered.
* What happens to my donation in case we ultimately do not make it? For large donations we'll contact and ask whether you want your money back or should we use it for the lab in general (there's always things the we could improve), smaller ones are assumed to be usable for the general good unless you specifically contact the board and ask for your money back.
Rambohttps://wiki.helsinki.hacklab.fi/mediawiki/index.php?title=Laserleikkuri_CM1690&diff=32736Laserleikkuri CM16902018-10-04T05:08:14Z
Rambo:

For large donations we'll contact and ask whether you want your money back or should we use it for the lab in general (there's always things the we could improve), smaller ones are assumed to be usable for the general good unless you specifically contact the board and ask for your money back.
Rambohttps://wiki.helsinki.hacklab.fi/mediawiki/index.php?title=Laserleikkuri_CM1690&diff=32721Laserleikkuri CM16902018-10-01T13:40:08Z
Rambo:

Placeholder for questions related to the machine we hopefully can afford to buy and if we get it the main page.

* Funding deadline ? 12th October 2018.
** The link to payment info is not here because this page is not limited to members only and asking "the public" for money needs a special permit.
*** Check your email or "pinned items" on #yleinen at Slack
** However: If you know a business that could support us, go ahead and try to get them to buy some of those support items.
** Organisation's own budget is reserved for rent payments and other important operating costs, so we need this special member funding to get this done. The machine is specially reserved for us and is available only for this time for this price and with these specs.
* 2018-10-01 12:55 -- 1 310 of 4000€ Funded (note: amount updated manually daily or so)
* Materials ? See http://atxhackerspace.org/wiki/Laser_Cutter_Materials
** Basically everything but metals and stuff that produces poisonous/corrosive gas
** Why not metal ? Short answer: Metal reflects IR too well to be cut with IR laser. Marking metals is possible though.
* Cutting area 1600 × 900 mm with through feed so full-size stock can be used.
* Total price ? About 16k€
* How come delivery is already being prepared when we don't have all the money yet ?
** 1. Optimism

Lotan leikkuuneste kiertää koneen alla olevasta säiliöstä oikeassa takanurkassa olevan pumpun voimalla. Pumpulta neste menee paksua letkua pitkin kahteen magneettiventtiiliin. Venttiilit ovat lotan oikeassa kyljessä olevan luukun takana. Venttiileistä litku jatkaa ulkomitaltaan 1/2" (12,5mm) puutarhaletkuilla karan viereen. Loppumatkalla letkujen suojana on metallivahvike.

Venttiilejä ohjataan 24V solenoideilla, pumpun sähköt tulevat koneen kyljessä olevan liittimen kautta. Pumpun yhteydessä on myös yksi solenoidi, jonka tarkoitus on epäselvä. Litkusäiliössä on pinnankorkeusanturi ilmaisemassa alarajan litkulle.

{|
|-

# Estää ihmisten vahingoittuminen
# Estää koneen tuhoutuminen
# Välttää työkaluille ja työkappaleille syntyviä vaurioita

||

These safety rules have 3 main purposes. In priority order those are:

# Prevent people from getting hurt
# Prevent destruction of the machine
# Avoid damage to the tools and workpieces

|-
| Perussäännöt koneen käyttöön

* Koneen hyödyntämismahdollisuus on lähtökohtaisesti tarkoitettu Hacklabin kaikille jäsenille.
* Kuoleminen on kielletty! Ilman lupaa tapahtuva kuoleminen on pahimmillaan jopa erottamisperuste.
* "Mitähän tuosta napista tapahtuu" on HUONO ajatus.

Lotan käytön edellytyksenä on riittävät perustiedot koneen operoinnista

Lähtökohtaisesti perustiedot hankitaan CNC-alkeiskurssilla ja sen jatkokursseilla. Vaihtoehtona on riittävä perehdytys koneen käyttöön jonkun valtuutetun kouluttajan toimesta.

Näyttökoe koneen käyttöön valtuuttamista varten.

Tällä hetkellä koneen käyttöön voivat valtuuttaa seuraavat:

# Kremmen (Martti Paalanen)
# dist (Taneli Kaivola)

Kaikissa tapauksissa valtuutetun kouluttajan on vahvistettava halukkaan pätevyys koneen operaattoriksi. Huomaa, että operaattori vastaa kaikesta mitä koneella tapahtuu.

Tällä hetkellä koneen operaattoreiksi (itsenäisiksi käyttäjiksi) on valtuutettu:
* Kremmen (Martti Paalanen)

* rambo (Eero af Heurlin)

* dist (Taneli Kaivola)

* Heikkki (Heikki Salminen)

* Depili (Vesa-pekka Palmu)

* thjt (Timo Toivanen)

* Eero Pajunen

|| Basic rules for machine usage

* The machine is intended to be used by all (qualified) members of Hacklab
* In unclear cases the use of the machine is directed firstly by the superuser (Kremmen) and finally the owner's representative (rambo)
* Only those operate the machine independently who have received appropriate training and who have been deemed sufficiently skilled and sane to do so. Others may operate the machine under the direct supervision of a person qualified for independent operation.
* Dying is strictly prohibited! Dying without permission can be grounds for termination of membership! Do read, rehash and memorize the safety rules and work according to them.
* "I wonder what that button might do" is a BAD idea. If you don't know, find out in advance. Using the machine is not a right but an earned privilege. Several lab members have invested their hard earned money so that we might have this rarity in our use. Do treat it accordingly.
* The tools found in the magazine shall be calibrated and at least the length offset for said tools is correctly programmed in Lotta's tool offset table. If you don't calibrate a tool it must be removed from the magazine after use. Additionally, calibration must be performed according to the agreed procedure or if not, again the tool must be removed.
* If a vise has been fixed to the table, it has been
** aligned true with better that 0.1 mm precision (using the inside ends of the fixed jaw as reference). Use the beeper or dial indicator as instructed.
** programmed in work coordinates 1 (G54) and 2 (G55) with X as the left end of the fixed jaw and Y as the inside. The right hand side or only vise is 1 (G54) and the left is 2 (G55) if both vises are on the table at the same time.
* If you place a vise on an empty table, please note the clearance required by the magazine and the tools in it. If your workpiece is tall it may not have room under a long tool when the magazine advances to the tool change position. In such a case fix the vise closer to the right side of the table and home the table before tool changes.
* Allowed materials for milling are basically all others except porous stuff that soaks up oil and water to itself. For this reason wood milling is forbidden. Wood dust will dry out lubricated surfaces and together with cutting fluid it forms an intolerable putty that clogs all narrow gaps and leads to trouble. Ther are no exceptions from this rule. In unclear cases the machine superuser will determine whether a material is fit to work or not. Please do ask if unsure.

The precondition for operating Lotta is sufficient knowledge on machine handling

As a general rule this knowledge is acquired on introductory and basic training courses. Optionally a qualified instructor may guide a person in the use of the machine.

You get qualification for use of Lotta by passing the Operator's Test

At this time the following persons act as Operator's Test supervisors:

# Kremmen (Martti Paalanen)
# dist (Taneli Kaivola)

In all cases a named test supervisor must confirm an applicant's qualification as operator. Note that the operator is responsible for everything that happens at the machine

At this time the qualified Lotta operators are:
* Kremmen (Martti Paalanen)

* rambo (Eero af Heurlin)

* dist (Taneli Kaivola)

* Heikkki (Heikki Salminen)

* Depili (Vesa-pekka Palmu)

* thjt (Timo Toivanen)

* Eero Pajunen

| 10 käskyä

# Koneen ollessa tulilla, sillä on yksi vastaava operaattori.
# Operaattorivastuun luovutus kuitataan sanallisesti tähän tyyliin: Arska: "Kone on sinun" - Jaska: "OK, otin koneen vastaan" tms.
# Käsinajossa kone sallii turvaporttien aukiolon jotta asetus- ja säätötöitä voidaan tehdä. Käytä järkeäsi, äläkä mene käsinesi lähelle pyörivää karaa. Erityisesti varo isoja työkaluja joiden pyörintäsäde voi yllättää.
# Operoidessasi konetta, pidä huolta ettei karan lähellä ole käsiä tai muitakaan ruumiinosia kun käynnistät liikkeitä.
# Älä luota siihen, että ohjelma tekee mitä haluat. Se tekee mitä olet käskenyt. Myös G-koodissa on bugeja!
# Älä häiritse koneen operaattoria hänen ollessaan keskittyneenä koneen operointiin.

|| 10 Commandments

# When the machine is hot it has exactly one responsible operator. He/she is answerable for all events around the machine until operator duty is passed to the next guy.
# When a person cold starts the machine he/she becomes the responsible operator from that moment onwards.
# Operator responsibility shall be handed over verbally in this manner: Arnie: "It is your machine" - Bernie: "OK, I got the machine". The key is that the receiver acknowledges the transfer of responsibility explicitly. Only then is the responsibility actually transferred. When you are the operator, DO NOT JUST SLIP AWAY without transferring the responsibility. If there is no-one to take over, turn the machine off. You can only transfer the responsibility to another qualified operator.
# Anyone can hit the EMERGENCY STOP button when observing a potential or actual hazard. Only the operator will release the Emergency Stop.
# Don't try to circumvent the machine safety mechanisms, especially the door interlocks.
# Don't dress in clothes with anything flapping around that could be snagged by a rotating shaft. Lotta is definitely stronger than your bones and the result will be gruesome.
# During manual operation the machine allows safety doors to be open so that various adjustments are possible. Use your brain and don't put your hands too close to a rotating spindle. Be especially wary of large diameter tools that can have a surprising swing.
# When operating the machine, see to it that no hands or other body parts are close to the spindle when starting it.
# Do not trust the machine to do what you want. It will do what you ordered it to do. Also G code has bugs!
# Do not distract the operator when he/she is concentrating on machine operation.

The optical engraver is connected to a Raspberry PI 3 Model B with Raspbian Jessie running version 3.256.0 of LaserWeb3.

* multicast address: laserweb.local
* IPv4: 192.168.110.176 (not guaranteed to be the same)
* LaserWeb is listening on port 8000

Steps to engrave/cut an SVG:
Please note that currently the X axis of the engraver is inverted. This results in mirrored engravings. Flip the SVG horizontally to fix this.

Preparig the Machine
# Make sure the power is turned on both in the extension cords and in the machine itself
# Install the workpiece and close the lid
# Turn the laser on (green button, check that the red led turns on)
# Turn on the lights (flip the small metallic switch)
# Check that the laser power is set at an appropriate level

Engraving the SVG
Note that only SVG paths can be engraved. Convert text and other objects into paths (e.g. with InkScape).

# Browse to http://192.168.110.165:8000 or http://laserweb.local:8000
# Click the Open button and select an SVG image or drag-and-drop it
# Configure the feedrate, number of passes and depth of each pass
# Click the Generate G-Code button
# Click the Process button to load the G-Code
# Click the run gcode (Play) button to run the G-Code
# After the machine is idle, click the home laser button to return the laser home

Installing the Workpiece
* If possible, use the clamps. The laser focus seems to be good at the depth of the clamp.
* The maximum height of an object that fits the clamp is roughly 80mm.
* If engraving larger pieces, make sure that they stay still and don't move. Some duct tape or a few drops of superglue should hold them still.

Observations on Cutting Depths
